Common Name - Agave sisalana
Country of Origin - Southern Mexico but widely cultivated around the world for fibre
How to grow - Agaves are very tolerant of soil types as long as its well drained, mature plants can cope very well with drought but younger plants may need more water in dry conditions. They make ideal pot plants as they have shallow roots but they quickly fill a pot so planting in the ground if possible is best. If well drained will tolerate frost.

Description - From Southern Mexico but widely cultivated around the world for the stiff fibre from its leaves, used for rope and fibre it has a wide range of uses now, with clothing, dartboards, hats and carpets being made from it. The leaves are thinner and more upright than Agave americana and a lot less spikey, though the tips of the leaves are still sharp
